Feedback for Flint Academy (Positive + Constructive)

Hello!

I’ve been working with teachers and students to potentially use Flint Academy as a preparation tool for Finals, and soft-launch it for next year as a way to close gaps in instruction when teacher support isn’t logistically viable. Below are some things I’ve seen so far. If anyone in the community has any workarounds for my issues or suggestions to optimize my usage, I would love that!

Diagnostic Question Issues:

• For a German class, a practice sheet and review guide was uploaded. Some of the diagnostic questions asked for a translation, but provided the English version in quotes beside the German language answer choice.

• In German, a Dative packet was uploaded. While it correctly read the information for a vast majority, it included “reflexive verbs” which were not a part of the source material as far as we could tell.

Lesson Issues

• On several occasions across multiple resources and topics, the whiteboard did not generate. The chat would refer to a diagram being made, a refresh would reveal the diagram, but within 5 seconds, it would disappear again.

• Refreshing the browser multiple times can lead us back to the diagnostic screen, but with no questions and no distinct way to move forward.

• When the board does generate, it is frequently crammed - making the information difficult to read or differentiate at times.

Positives:

• Juniors in particular seem really engaged with the idea of the platform.

• The platform is able to interpret and correctly use a wide variety of documents - including ones that are scanned worksheets or have handwriting on them - with very few errors.

• Teachers agree with the learning objectives that Flint presents; they find them appropriately worded and directionally correct, though two of them expressed skepticism about whether or not students would be able to evaluate them.
